Monday Musings: Pain

Trigger Warning: this poem contains thoughts of suicide and other mental health issues. It was written over 8 years ago, and does not reflect who I am now. Please seek help if you find yourself with these thoughts and emotions. I am sharing this to show there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and you are not alone.

If you are currently struggling with your mental health, please reach out to a friend/family member and check out these resources:

Pain

You think you know real pain:
the sting of a cut,
the crack of a bone.

You think you know real feelings:
the cry of sorrow,
the giggle of happiness.

You think you know the real me:
the loneliness I feel,
the relief I seek.

Pain doesn’t appear just on the outside;
it scars us worse inside.
Are your scars external?
Or internal?

Internal pain kills ever so slowly.
You can push everyone away.
You can make sure there’s no one left.
Then it can be over.

  1. I’m glad you’re in a better place than when you wrote that poem. Most of my scars are internal and I certainly could relate since I attempted suicide in my college days.
