5 Games That Have Had The Biggest Impact On My Life (+ tags)
Naja at Blerdy Otome nominated me for the 5 Games That Have Had The Biggest Impact On My Life tag that she adapted from Twitter! And I’m glad she did, because this is a fantastic tag to put on a blog. I have to admit, there’s been a lot of video games that I have loved for many different reasons over the years than span over so many genres. I’ve had a bit of a hard time picking five but if you want to know how I feel about some of my other favorite games, you can check out my 30 Day Video Game Challenge.
Spyro the Dragon

Spyro the Dragon was my very first video game. It brought me immense comfort during a tumultuous childhood. I wrote more in depth about it for The Games That Define Us which was cathartic and emotional for me. It’s crazy how something so simple as a purple dragon could mean so much to a little girl. Playing the Reignited series brought back a lot of those emotions, good and bad, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.
Animal Crossing

Ah, wouldn’t be a top 5 kind of post without mentioning Animal Crossing. It started with a chance encounter with a friend who had a GameCube and the next thing I knew, I was hooked. While AC doesn’t seem like the kind of game that has an impact on someone’s life, it is a game that continues to help my anxiety. I can jump in and feel like I can relax with my daily tasks of looking for fossils, gathering resources, talking to my villagers, or fishing. During COVID-19, New Horizons was there to hold me up when I felt like I was going to fall apart. Never underestimate a cute game with “mundane” tasks.
Katawa Shoujo

My first visual novel was Katawa Shoujo. It’s gained quite the cult following and for good reason. Not only is it free and a one-of-a-kind experience, but it also has the power to pull on your heart in ways you might not have expected considering its adult content. KS for me opened a door into playing even more visual novels. To be honest, I’m still chasing the feeling that KS gave me on my first playthrough. It broke my heart but rewarded with me with such intense story telling and characters. 10/10 would snot-cry while playing this again.
Fatal Frame II

Fatal Frame II holds a special place in my heart for so many reasons. My childhood best friend and I used to stay up late into the night playing horror games. Along with Silent Hill 2, Fatal Frame II became something we bonded over. It also was the start of my love for horror games, namely PS2 horror games. I hope to play the entire series over on my YouTube channel one day.
Kingdom Hearts

When I say Kingdom Hearts, I mean the whole series. It captured my mind and my heart, but most importantly, it helped me get to know my husband. It’s one of his favorite games, and when we first met, it was an easy talking point that we could both enjoy. I’ve since fallen behind on the games, and he’s helping me catch up currently which means we get to spend some much needed time together.

Animal Crossing Wild World changed my life! And I picked it up on a whim. Kingdom Hearts is one of my favorites also; Axel is 👌🏼 lol but it combines my love for RPG’s and Disney 💖.
Life is so strange like that! A game can just drop into your lap and before you know it, it’s changed how you feel and think about life.
KH is the best of both worlds. (And I can’t wait to go back to Disney World once it’s safe to do so!) I really hope we can get another fantastic mash up one day like Kingdom Hearts, though it probably won’t compare.
Ugh same; I just had to call and cancel our May trip yesterday. I’m so heartbroken. I finally got the 3 dining reservations I wanted too! Sigh!
Oh no! I’m so sorry. 😭 Those reservations are so difficult to get so that’s just an extra slap on top of everything. 💔
OMG I know! The one I had for Ohana was literally the LAST reservation for that entire week and it was at 930! The restaurant closes at 10! So I can only imagine how many other people are probably bummed about having to cancel theirs too.
Sucks this happened. I mean it sucks for a lot of people but it’s hard to stay positive when you have to let go of something you’ve waited years for T_T.
I absolutely understand. Your feelings are valid 100%. Disney for most people is a once (or twice) in a lifetime kind of trip. Saving and planning is an entire event in itself. I really feel for you and everyone else who had to cancel their first trip to Disney for this year. It’s so sad. I hope you still get to go after all of this is over (and that you get your reservations!!!). ❤️
Nice to see Fatal Frame II get a shout out! It’s one of the only horror games I actually got through and genuinely enjoyed!
It’s such a good game. I am hoping to give it some time to shine by doing a Let’s Play on my YT channel one day soon.
Would definitely watch! I haven’t seen/played it in years!
After so long intending to get around to it, I’m finally playing Katawa Shoujo and it’s really pulled me in, so I can see why you like it. Still on my first route, though. It’s not a short one.
So glad you’re enjoying it so far!! Yeah, it’s a longer game and with all the routes and different endings, it’s got a lot of replay value. 😊
